The International Aikido Federation, or IAF for short, is the international Aikido umbrella organization associated with the Aikido Hombu Dojo. The president of the federation is always the Doshu. This is currently Moriteru Ueshiba.
Other well-known members include Tada Shihan as Chairman of the Senior Council and Asai Shihan as a member of the Senior Council. The members of the IAF consist of national aikido associations that are recognized by the Hombu Dojo. However, only one association per country is currently authorized. Therefore, of the 53 associations currently recognized by the Hombu Dojo, only 43 are members of the International Federation.
The aim of the umbrella organization is to preserve and develop aikido in the spirit of Ueshiba Morihei, the founder of aikido. The Federation therefore organizes various events, such as the IAF Congress, which takes place every four years. Two members of the ACSA board take part in each event. The congress is always combined with an aikido course at which international shihans teach.
